Description

Get Counted!: Teaching the Census with We Speak NYC

Description: To showcase the importance of being counted in the 2020 Census, WSNYC has recently created and produced two empowering short videos; CensusGirl and Count Us In. Each video highlights the significance of the census, debunks misinformed perceptions and is accompanied by a variety of student-centered activities. Participants in this workshop will learn how to utilize the new WSNYC 2020 Census videos and teaching materials for online instruction, including sample pages from authentic 2020 Census forms that you can use to teach how to complete the census. Particular focus in the workshop will also be given to visual literacy teaching techniques and narrative-based learning and discussion strategies.
